Image Title: Ice Pattern Abstract
Category: Landscape

Technical Details: Nikon F5, 80-200mm lens with polarizer, Fuji Velvia film
Location: Mount Baker Wilderness, Washington
Description: While photographing fall colors early one morning,
I came across a small pool of water that had partially frozen over. Studying it a bit closer, I noticed this beautiful pattern of curved lines, which were in fact water ripples that had been shaped by wind and low temperatures. The real surprise to this image appeared after I put the polarizer on the lens. Not only did the polarizer remove the glare from the ice, it brought out an interesting Y-shaped pattern, which I could not see with my naked eye. The Y-shaped pattern is actually the organic oils that were leaching out from the soil, which were slowly being swept across the surface of the water.

With my photography, I try to convey and share the beauty of the world around that surrounds us all. What I really love about macro photography is that it allows me to take an ordinary subject and make it extraordinary.

As a photographer, it is my goal to experience and learn from all that nature has to offer. This planet is truly a beautiful and magnificent place, and I try to convey that idea to others through my photography, along with the importance of protecting and preserving our natural environment. It is my hope that viewers will walk away with a greater appreciation and love for nature.
