I saw the sky and knew that the light would be perfect at this particular location. I had seen the remains of a broken pier before, so I already had an idea of what I wanted to capture. The air was still with a low cloud base and gentle surf hitting the shore. As I looked through the lens I realized the picture would only "work" if the surf broke at just the right point. It took about fifteen shots to get what I wanted, but I got it and it's turned out to be one of my favorite images.   Gareth Rockliffe was born in England and moved to the U.S. fifteen years ago. After living in the New England area for many years, he recently moved to Naples, Florida with his wife and fellow photographer Jan Soderquist. Together they operate a successful black and white portrait business, as well as a corporate art business that specializes exclusively in Gareth's landscape photography. Gareth has had a passion for photography since he was fifteen years old and has worked professionally for the past eighteen. Although he works in many different areas of photography, landscape has always been what inspires him.
