Photographer: Jim McGraw, Medina, Washington
Image Title: Sand Catcher
Category: Landscape

Technical Details: Canon EOS-1v, 17-35mm f/2.8 lens, Fuji Velvia film
Location: White Sands National Monument, New Mexico
Description: A Soaptree Yucca elongates its leaves above the bone white gypsum sand to anchor the plant in the wind-sculpted dunes. The rippled barchan slopes are dimpled following a rare desert rainstorm. Soaptree Yuccas continue to grow on a pedestal after the dunes move on in their 11-million-year-old journey. The distant mountains are the future location of Mexican Grey Wolf reintroduction.
